it’s time for some auburn football

well it’s that time of year again, fall and football at the holcombe household.  the first weekend of college football starts this weekend.  i’m a huge auburn football fan as is the rest of my family.  well all except for my husband billy. he is a georgia fan, but i still love him.  although i’ll be in washington dc this weekend on my annual girl’s trip(YAY!), i’ll still be getting regular updates on the scores from my husband who will be in charleston for his annual guys football kick-off trip.

this post is dedicated to auburn and to the wonderful color combination of orange and blue.  i don’t suggest designing a home or room around a sports team but auburn is fortunate enough to have great school colors…orange and blue.  take a look at all the photos i found of homes designed with this color scheme.

this bedroom was designed by anna spiro author of the blog absolutely beautiful things.

gorgeous ceramic garden stools from overstock.com

christian may over at maison21 just posted a blog that you can find here and he included a picture and link to an overstock garden stool.

i went to the link and in the right-hand column were 6 other gorgeous garden stools at very reasonable prices.  all of them between $90 and $160.

Ceramic Hexagonal Cream Stool

i’m crazy about the cane pattern right now so this one is my favorite.

design within reach knock-offs

i have always thought that dwr should stand for design that’s way out of reach instead of design within reach.  i love the store but i’ve never been able to afford anything.  thinking about this i went looking for some affordable knock-offs to a few of their most recognizable pieces. i found some amazing deals on overstock.com and eurway.com

my favorite find is the louis ghost armchair(set of 2)

dwr - $820

Louis Ghost Armchair - Set of 2

overstock - $329

Clear Acrylic Arm Chairs (Set of 2)

dwr’s price for their le klint pendant actually isn’t quite cringe worthy, but i did find one for more than half of the price at eurway.

dwr - $435

Le Klint 172B Pendant

eurway – $126.50

Meringue Hanging Lamp (MERINGUE-PEN)

i found this knock-off of knoll’s bertoia diamond lounge chair at overstock. while the knock-off doesn’t quite look like it was manufactured according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer harry bertoia (like the dwr chair is), it could definitely suffice until you could save up for dwr’s chair.

dwr - $929                               overstock - $183Bertoia Diamond Lounge Chair with Seat PadRupert Chrome Steel Chair with Leatherette Seat Pad

eames molded plastic rocker

dwr - $479

Eames® Molded Plastic Rocker

overstock - $159

Vinnie White Cradle Chair

eileen gray side table

dwr - $550

Eileen Gray Side Table

overstock - $124

Eileen Gray Stainless Steel Accent Table

here’s another one of my favorites and i was really excited about the price of the knock-off.  It looks like the knock-off has a brushed chrome finish instead of the bright chrome like dwr’s.

arco floor lamp

dwr - $2,696

Arco Floor Lamp - White Base

eurway - $407.15

Cora Floor Lamp (CORA-FLR)

the 1006 navy® barstool knock-off that i found is a little bit of a stretch but it is still all metal like the original.

dwr - $650

1006 Navy® Barstool - Brushed

eurway - $262.65

Romeo Bar Stool (700031)

zero table

dwr - $1,400

Zero Table - 31.5 in Glass Top

eurway - $305.15

Galaxy Dining Table (102151)

as for quality, you may want to stick with dwr.  i’m not sure if these knock-offs would stand the test of time.  they would certainly do until you could save up your money for the originals though. :o)

A Model Nosy Neighbor

Sometimes during a slow weekend, Southern Hubby and I like to go to super nice model homes and snoop around. We pretend he's a famous plastic surgeon and I'm a successful boutique owner, and could actually afford some of these homes. Hey, it gets us in the door!

I love taking pictures (pretending I'm trying to size up where I would put my $5k leather ottoman) and using them for decor inspiration for my own home.

Professional stagers and interior designers decorate these beautiful homes. I love to see how they stage certain spaces and how they combine colors and textures. I guess it's sort of like a cheapskate way of getting designer advice.

Yep, I shamelessly stole this ship idea from a model home. But it totally fit in with the maps/travels theme we have in our study! I couldn't help it. ;)

Media rooms are huge in Texas. Everyone has to have one!

Loving how high off the ground this bed is. And the crisp white and chartreuse combo.

Ahhhh... my dream kitchen... look at those dark hand scraped floors...

Your guests will have sweet dreams in this room!

Does anyone stage their breakfast area table or the dining room table? I keep the breakfast table with place mats and pretty napkins but that's about it. My good friend and old neighbor, Kelly, kept her wedding china set on her dining room. It was beautiful but got dusty. She has a maid, so no worries for her. The maid here doesn't want to dust more than she has to! ;)

Great example of how to decorate book shelves.

Calgon, take me away...

Loving the brown and orange combo

This master bathroom was a dream!!!

OK, so surely I'm not the only one that does this, right? Right? I mean, I can't quite possibly be the only nosey gal out there! All jokes aside, it really is a great way to get home decor ideas and see how professionals design certain spaces you may have in your home.

Hope you enjoyed this tour as much as I did. It got me in the mood to clean my house really good today to get it looking like I have a model home of my very own. :)

Happy that it's almost the weekend!
xoxo Y
