Right now..

... I'm thinking of my "word" for 2011.

... I'm mourning the holiday season and all that goes with it. Extra friendly smiles, the connection that we are all in this together, even the hustle and bustle. It makes me feel the 'aliveness' that I desperately seek come January when it's cold and dark.

... I'm learning the ins and outs of one of my Christmas gifts from my mama and daddy.

... I'm itching to start a new knitting project, but can't decide what to do. Socks, perhaps? lol :)

... I'm wondering what I can do liven a boring living room mantle. It just looks so plain now that all the Christmas greenery and pretties were put up. :(

... I'm excited about celebrating my sissy's 29th birthday today! She got some new wheels for Christmas, too! :) Happy Birthday, Sissy- I love you mucho!

... I'm still recovering from my wisdom teeth extraction. All four are gone and my mouth suddenly feels much roomier.

... I'm nursing some hurt pride from an olive branch I extended to a "frenemy" that was undoubtedly ignored. People can argue over the silliest things and despite my absolute stubborness, I'm realizing that life is way too short.

And because life is indeed, too short, I'm getting off the computer to spend time with Southern Hubby.

Have a great night, y'all! And a very Happy New Year!

PS Today I'm linking up to Thrilling Thursday over at Paisley Passions. :)

Why I Love Aprons

I am a firm lover of aprons. I always wonder why they have been given such a bad rap. It isn't too often that I see women wearing aprons any more. The feminist movement declared them shackles to the home. I might be in the minority, but I love being 'shackled to my home.'

Because I have devoted my time and energy to my home, it is a place of love and refuge for us. And each day that I do the things that some women now consider drudgery, I'm wearing a beloved apron. The pockets hold mismatched socks and the mail. The bib keeps my clothes from getting soiled and wet. And when I tie on the strings, I'm reminded that this is exactly where I want to be.

Aprons are feminine and beautiful. To me, they are more than ties to home in terms of the cooking and cleaning. When I don my apron, I'm expressing my role as a female and where I stand in my marriage. I'm a wife and a homemaker. And that does not put me behind Southern Hubby. We both regard my job just as important as his.

I think they should be cherished, for they speak of our creativity and resourcefulness as women in today's demanding and often chaotic world. They remind us of simpler times gone by when being a homemaker and mother was an honorable job.

I'm thrilled to hear they are making a small comeback. Hopefully women will see them for what they truly are- a beautiful symbol of what it means to be a woman and the glorious work that God has entrusted us to do.

Merry Christmas!

I’m back with one last unplanned post for Christmas Day.  I hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas holiday with your families.  We are really excited bout the possibility of snow here in Atlanta!  My mom, who is visiting from Huntsville, has been getting texts and pictures all morning from her friends telling her about the 3” they have on the ground so far.  It’s supposed to be headed this way so we’ve got our fingers crossed that we will have a white Christmas!

Here are the last few pictures of holiday decorations that I have to post for my Christmas Time series.  I promise these are the last ones.  :o)   These pictures come from Blayne Beacham of This Photographer’s Life who lives in Atlanta.  Blayne’s home looks so beautiful this year.  I wonder how many of those Christmas presents have been opened by now.  Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your home at Christmas time Blayne!

More Christmas Time Decor

Today’s bit of Christmas decorating comes from a few different places.  First up is Melissa author of the blog Living a Beautiful Life from Manchester, New Hampshire.  Earlier this year Melissa’s cozy home was featured on ApartmentTherapy.comCLICK HERE to tour Melissa’s mid-centery modern home.

Next up is Barbara from right here in Atlanta.  Barbara lives in a high-rise in the heart of Midtown and has done a fantastic job of making the most out of her space.  My favorite picture of all is the way she has decorated her modern model home with miniature Christmas trees.  It’s adorable!

Monday, Mondays

The weather around here is iffy. Some days we're in the 30's and other days we're in the 60's. All this wishy-washy weather makes me want to stay inside my warm house and craft. I've had lots of time to piddle around here and think. Here a couple of my random thoughts...indulge me, please.
  • As you know, I'm on a sock knitting binge. Ever since I learned how to this them past summer, I've been knitting nothing but. They're fun, addictive and (if you know how the knit and purl stitch) relatively easy. I think next on my list, I'd like to learn how to make these fun felted slippers. They pattern calls for recycling a sweater, so you save on the materials- bonus. :) Sadly, they call for crocheting, so I'll have to hit up my creative sister for a quick lesson.

  • Wednesday at 10am I'm getting all four of my wisdom teeth removed. I'm terrified. I've never been 'put under' before. They're prescribing some sort of sedative to take before I come in. I'm also hoping they give me some gas before they insert the IV. I hate needles. I know I'll survive, but the anticipation is killing me. I'd appreciate some prayers to calm my nerves.
  • Sometime in between my surgery and Christmas I've got to sew up a pillow. Each year Southern Hubby and I all exchange names with my three sisters for gifts. It started a few years ago when 3 out of 4 of us were in college and without dough. We discovered how much love go into homemade gifts when we each get to use our talents and the tradition stuck. This year I got my youngest sister. I'm making her a pillow. Somehow I'm going to teach myself the 'dresden plate' quilting pattern. Yeah, we'll see how that goes. I'd appreciate some prayers for that one, too.
What's been on your mind lately?
